The butterfly knot is a classic Chinese knot.

The easiest knots are made up of a series of bights, each one of which passes through or goes around the previous loop.

1. Fold the thread so as to form two bights. Pass the second bight through the first bight, as shown by the arrow.

2. The design looks like this.

3. Move the strand so as to follow the path taken by the arrows. Tighten the knot carefully, little by little.
